The millenial generation is NOT self absorbed

I’ve been thinking. Actually I was reading a news article about millenials (my generation) on Forbes. I have “liked” Forbes on their facebook page because they cover some interesting and thought provoking topics which what I’m all about.

The topic was of course some variation about the Millenial generation. I read the article then I had an observation about the news outlets and what they like to report on. Many times I hear the phrase “The millenial generation is self absorbed, entitled, and narcissistic”. Then the observation came to me: these organizations are making this generation into something that it wants us to be. Almost daily some news topic appears on Forbes or elsewhere about Millenials!

It’s not us, its the news outlets! We can’t be self absorbed unless journalists like you keep making report after report about us! It sounds to me like the media is more obsessed with the Millenial generation than we are.

I think the reason that the Media reports on us so often is they want our subscription dollar or viewership. The newer generations are very tech savvy and most don’t even have a newspaper subscription. We all know the news papers are losing revenue and are becoming increasingly irrelevant. I believe their strategy is to make so many topics about us that we will become a customer.

So in short; we’re not self obsessed, you’re obsessed with us!

First blog post with some stuff about me!

Hi there. If you’re reading this you’re probably one of my friends or potentially even someone subscribed to my youtube channel. At the time of this first post I have not informed my subscribers about this new blog however I will in the future. The link in this post is a link to that youtube channel.

This blog was created so that I would have a place to share my thoughts and ideas which I frequently do on Facebook. On a related note I started the youtube channel to create awareness about Schizophrenia and other mental illnesses. It was also made to change the mindset toward people with mental illness (like me!).

However I have decided to change things with the channel. I took a step back to take a look at why I was even working on it. To be honest part of the reason for starting it was that I wanted to earn an income through it. The other half or so of that reason was the reason I mentioned before in this post and I still fully intend to change what people think about schizophrenia and other mental illnesses.

However when I watched another Youtuber’s video about why he thinks more gaming commentators should be like Seananner’s (another very successful Youtuber) I realized that what I was doing was both just not for me, and also just not what I wanted to do.

See, I find editing video, and recording my voice to be frustrating and not very enjoyable. The big appeal to being a gaming youtuber is you get to play games and get paid. Who wouldn’t want to do that, right? Well, I soon realized that there is a massive difference between liking to watch people play video games, and actually doing it.

Doing that involves the task of video production, and you have to actually enjoy what you are doing. The biggest part of having such a career is the playing of games. Many youtuber’s are successful but I get the idea that they are doing it for the career and not for the enjoyment. That defeats the entire reason for making that kind of content!

Honestly I pity those youtubers who I think are really just doing it for the money. Its obvious what they are doing and why. They make so much content that is meaningless. Meaningless content is a bad thing. To define the antonym of this phrase “meaningful content” it means that the content, the thing that you are producing is at the very least interesting, entertaining, or watchable to someone. Now that you know what these things are I want to tell you how I know that these youtubers are doing it for the income.

They make uploads just for the sake of uploading, getting something out there. Uploads like “Battlefield 3 Scar-H stats” and “Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 tips and tricks” which contain nothing actually useful to anyone who plays the game. In a gunfight in a game where the battle will be decided in a few seconds (literally a few seconds) does it really help to have all of the statistical knowledge about a particular weapon?

The answer is no, because real skills in a game are muscle memory, reaction time, hand eye coordination, and instinct! There is no time to be thinking about what kind of weapon is best for the situation. There is also no possibility of picking up said weapon even if it is nearby!

Meaningful content is a term I learned and adopted from a particular media mogul who I read about in the news. I adopted it because it fit my mindset and gave a name to something that I had been thinking all along.

As you may have estimated at this point I am a gamer. I am a huge gamer! To let you know more about me I enjoy games very much and I am very serious about making games. In support of the skills I will need to do that I learned to and do like to occasionally program a computer. I also like Art as I always have.

Another thing about me is I also have a previous diagnosis of Autism spectrum disorder – Aspergers Syndrome that was found even before the diagnosis of Paranoid Schizophrenia.

Some knowledgeable people have said that this combination of mental disorders is rare. That makes me unique! To give you my opinion on that comment, I like that idea!

This blog will be about just about anything that comes to mind. It will also be concerned with gaming, games that I will be developing in the future (rather my “demos”), and computer programming.

To end this I will tell just a little bit more about me. I’m twenty-something, very smart, handsome, and I want to and aim to change this world.
